🚨 Update: The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” Passed the Senate on July 1 🚨

Now it’s back in the hands of Congress — and your voice is more important than ever.

Why This Matters

Congress is working on a law called the â€śOne Big Beautiful Bill Act.” If it passes, it could make big changes to how people with disabilities — like you, your friends, and your family — get services and supports through Medicaid.

This law would shift power away from the federal government and give states more control. While that might sound good, it could actually mean fewer protectionsharder access to services, and less funding to help people live in the community.

What the Bill Tries to Do — and Why It’s a Problem

  1. Makes It Easier for States to Change or Cut Services
    • Section 71123 allows states to create waivers that bypass federal standards.
    • Impact: States could reduce eligibility or limit services.
  2. Turns Medicaid into a Block Grant
    • Sections 71113 & 71120 cap Medicaid funding.
    • Impact: No extra help if more people need services or costs rise.
  3. Lets States Drop Important Services
    • Sections 71114 & 71115 allow states to cut services they don’t want to fund.
    • Impact: You could lose access to vital supports.
  4. Stops Federal Oversight Until 2034
    • Section 71102 delays enforcement of Medicaid rules.
    • Impact: Fewer protections and less accountability.

What This Could Mean for You

  • More Red Tape: Longer waits, more paperwork, and frequent re-qualification.
  • Fewer Supports: Reduced access to job coaching, home help, or community-based services
  • Bigger Gaps Between States: Your access to services could depend heavily on where you live.
