Values Into Action is proud to celebrate Princess Kamara, Support Partner, on earning her NADSP-1 Badge through the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) Credentialing Program.
For Princess, who has been a valued member of the VIA team for six years, the credentialing process was both a meaningful learning experience and an opportunity to reflect on the important work she does every day.
As a member of VIA’s first NADSP credentialing cohort, Princess appreciated the support she received throughout the process. She credits fellow team members and mentors, including Jake, Camia, and Dorinda, for providing encouragement, guidance, and feedback on the written testimonials required to earn the badge.
“The support made a huge difference,” Princess shared. “It helped me connect the work I do every day as a Support Partner to the competencies and trainings that are part of the credentialing process.”
One of the most rewarding aspects of the experience was the opportunity to showcase her strengths through her written testimonials. The process encouraged her to reflect on her daily practice, recognize the impact of her work, and build new skills as a collaborative team member.
Princess also discovered that many of the trainings she had already completed as a VIA employee counted toward the credential, making the process more accessible than she initially expected.
When asked what she would say to others considering NADSP credentialing, Princess offered simple encouragement:
“You’re already doing the work. The experiences you have every day as a Support Partner can translate into your testimonials. You won’t be alone, and there’s a lot of support available.”
She also noted that the credentialing process helped her recognize new ways she supports the people she works alongside, strengthening those relationships and helping her amplify practices that promote meaningful outcomes and self-determination.
Adding to this accomplishment, Princess completed the NADSP-1 credentialing process while simultaneously pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Her dedication to both her education and professional development is a testament to her commitment to lifelong learning and excellence in direct support.
