We’re excited to share that our organization is moving to Self-Managed Teams (SMTs)—a new way of working that builds on the strengths we already have.
What Are Self-Managed Teams?
Self-Managed Teams are groups of employees who work together to make decisions, solve problems, and share responsibilities. Instead of relying on one person to lead, everyone contributes to leadership. It’s about teamwork, trust, and shared ownership.
Why This Matters
This change will help us:
- Deliver Better Services: When teams work closely and make decisions together, they can respond faster and more effectively to the needs of the people we support.
- Improve the Work Experience: Everyone has a voice, can grow their skills, and feel more connected to their work and each other.
- Build Leadership at Every Level: Everyone has the chance to lead, learn, and support one another.
What This Means for You
If you’re a team member, you’ll:
- Help make decisions and solve problems with your team.
- Take responsibility for your work and support your coworkers.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with the people you support and their families.
- Stay involved through meetings, learning sessions, and feedback.
If you’re a leader, you’ll:
- Coach and support your team instead of directing every step.
- Share responsibility and trust your team to lead.
- Create a safe, respectful space where everyone can grow.
If you are a person accepting support or a family member, you can expect:
- Higher-Quality Services: Teams will be more responsive and better equipped to meet your needs.
- More Shared Responsibility: With more people involved in decision-making, there’s greater accountability and consistency.
- Stronger Relationships: Teams will have more time and flexibility to build meaningful connections with you and your family.
- Greater Trust and Transparency with the people supporting you and how decisions are being made.
Why Now?
In challenging times—like when funding is uncertain—self-managed teams help us stay strong. By working together and sharing leadership, we can adapt quickly and continue to provide excellent support, even with limited resources.
This is more than a new structure—it’s a transformation. It’s about creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, included, and empowered. It won’t always be easy, but it will be worth it.
Let’s move forward—together. Stay tuned for more information.
