This year, we’re excited to celebrate 20 years of Values Into Action! For two decades, we’ve worked with people with disabilities to help them live the lives they choose—in their homes and communities.
We started with a simple belief: everyone should have the right to make their own choices. Since then, we’ve supported hundreds of people in building lives full of respect and happiness.
The Power of Self-Determination
At the center of everything we do is this idea: people know what’s best for their own lives. Whether it’s deciding where to live, who to spend time with, or how to be part of their community, we’re here to support—not control—their journey.
Rewinding to 2013: A Year of Finding Our Voice
Let’s rewind to 2013. Beyoncé rocked the Super Bowl halftime show, Frozen was about to become a huge hit, and people were speaking up more than ever online. That same year, Katy Perry released “Roar,” a song all about standing up for yourself and being heard.
“I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath / Scared to rock the boat and make a mess.”
Katy Perry
This line reminds us of how many people with disabilities have felt—like they had to stay quiet or go along with what others decided. But at Values Into Action, we help people speak up, make choices, and take charge of their lives.
In 2013, we were 8 years old and growing fast. We were expanding our direct support services in eastern Pennsylvania and getting ready to launch our statewide Supports Brokerage. Just like the song, we were learning to “roar” louder—standing up for the people we support and helping them do the same.
Looking Back—and Ahead
As we celebrate 20 years, we’re thankful for the people we support, their families, our amazing staff, and the communities that embrace inclusion. Together, we’ve built something powerful: a movement based on respect, choice, and possibility.
Here’s to 20 years of action—and many more to come.
